Have you looked at the ingredients in “premium” pet foods lately? It may shock you...
These are but a few of the harmful additives used commonly in pet foods. Begin reading labels & checking those ingredient lists. Remember, ingredients must be listed in order of descending predominance; the first ingredient is the primary one, the second listed is next, and so on. |

| The ONLY foods we recommend are clean, natural ones that will truly nourish Chesapeake puppies all they way through adulthood. If you're used to purchasing pet food at the grocery store, its time to readjust your shopping habits. The money you save at the cash register buying cheap food will be greatly multiplied by what you spend at the vet. Plus, you will feed less of a better quality food, and because they are so much more digestible (no fillers), you'll have less waste to deal with. Keep in mind, though, that the mere cost of a food is NOT an index of its true quality. Please, be an informed consumer. Read labels. | ||||||||||

| The addition of a small amount of fish (cooked) will benefit your Chesapeake greatly. It is particularly advantageous during growth (i.e. puppyhood). NEVER feed soft moist type foods to any animal. They are the most chemically laden, NON-foods imaginable and will lead to a myriad of health problems. |

Please read those labels and be aware of more than advertising hype. Many companies are jumping on the health food band wagon with foods no better than the average grocery store variety . Feel free to call us at any time for advice on foods, or whatever. We want your Chessie to have a long and vital life. |

| Chesapeakes are normally very good eaters. Indeed, a Chessie going off his food is nothing to be ignored. Feeding a variety of healthy “goodies” can help provide additional vitamins and minerals as well as important enzymes. These “goodies” should be kept to a small amount (10-20% of total diet) and MUST be first rate, healthy foods - never sugary treats, chocolate, refined (white) flour products or highly processed foods. | ||||||||||

| Even when feeding the best natural pet foods your Chesapeake will benefit from moderate supplementation. One of the most important nutrients to use is Vitamin C. Although dogs synthesize this vitamin in their bodies, there is some question as to whether they are able to produce enough to cope with all the stresses of modern living. Studies have been done that implicate a lack of Vitamin C to an increased incidence of Hip Dysplasia. It is known to have important influences on the immune system, thereby being essential in resistance to viral and bacterial diseases. The following are our recommended dosages; |

| Always change dosage gradually; a sudden increase can cause temporary diarrhea. Maintenance dose can be increased during a period of illness, convalescence, or following any exposure to communicable diseases. |

| NOTE: Do not feed onions to your dog. They can cause an anemic reaction in some dogs, from very mild to fatal. There is no way of knowing ahead of time how your dog may react, so be on the safe side - - hold the onions! There is also a question on grapes - so be cautious with grapes and raisins as well. |
